Quality assurance and
monitoring in glulam construction

All quality-relevant manufacturing processes, which are monitored and checked by means of laboratory tests, are described in a factory quality manual and are monitored and documented daily in the form of internal monitoring. The effectiveness of the internal quality monitoring is verified by unannounced tests carried out twice a year by notified testing institutes.

In addition to the required quality monitoring defined in the product standard EN 14080, quality standards of Gütergemeinschaft BS Holz e.V. that go beyond this are met.

The quality standards
of the Gütegemeinschaft BS-Holz e.V.

The Gütegemeinschaft BS-Holz e.V. was founded by companies producing glulam. The aim of the quality association is to guarantee a consistently high quality of BS wood through constant in-house and external monitoring. The quality requirements for the product as well as the scope of the inspections are clearly above the level standardised by the building authorities.

The self-monitoring essentially comprises the following points:

  • Monitoring and logging of wood drying
  • Monitoring the strength grading of the board goods
  • Documentation of the wood moisture measurement of each individual board
  • Quality control of the glue
  • Climate control in the production rooms
  • Logging of all gluing data
  • Laboratory testing of finger-joint bending strength on random samples from daily production
  • Checking the glue joint quality by delamination test on test specimens from produced components
  • Checking the surface documentation of the components

External monitoring
by experts

Twice a year, the companies are inspected unannounced by experts. This external monitoring includes all the points already listed for self-monitoring. In addition, it is checked whether the manufacturer has regularly carried out the required self-monitoring.
