Sustainable workplace
at the Mainz-Bingen district administration

The Mainz-Bingen district administration building was designed as a sustainable and energy-efficient administrative building using a hybrid timber construction method and offers workspace for around 320 people across a total area of 17,000 square metres. Completed in 2023, the building comprises around 180 offices, meeting rooms, sanitary facilities, technical and ancillary rooms, and a canteen. An underground car park and storage rooms have also been integrated into the basement.

Various sustainable timber elements were used in the construction, which offer the advantage of easy dismantling, among other things. The building consists of glued laminated timber pendulum columns and beams made of birch, as well as cross-laminated timber ceiling elements made of softwood with a concrete core. The timber construction made it possible to dispense with additional steel components, which would normally have to be clad for fire protection reasons. The façade of the building consists of a timber frame construction with around 400 individual elements and cladding made of coated, pre-greyed silver fir, which gives the building a unique appearance.

The Mainz-Bingen district administration building thus meets the requirements for designing new workspaces in a sustainable and functional manner.
