Use classes wood
Timber construction products are classified into service classes (NKL) based on moisture-dependent strength changes, which take into account the environmental conditions. The service classes for wood take into account the corresponding climatic conditions as well as the moisture content of the wood.
DIN EN 1995-1-1 defines the following three service classes:
Use class 1:
Wood moisture corresponds to a temperature of the surrounding air of 20°C and a relative humidity that exceeds a value of 65% for only a few weeks per year. (e.g. heated buildings closed on all sides).
Use class 2:
Wood humidity corresponds to a temperature of the surrounding air of 20°C and a relative humidity that exceeds a value of 85% for only a few weeks per year. (e.g. open, roofed buildings)
Use class 3:
Climatic conditions prevail that cause a higher wood moisture content than described in service class 2. (e.g. constructions exposed to the weather).
