DERIX Timber Construction Award 2023
for „Floating Office Rotterdam“

„Building sustainably – meeting ESG criteria“ – it was the theme of the „DERIX timber construction day 2023“, a pilot event that brought together around 300 guests and speakers in the impressive new airship hangar in Mülheim on the Ruhr.

The event highlighted the opportunities and benefits offered by investing in circular construction projects. For a successful realization of circular projects, the early networking and communication of all project participants is of central importance. For this reason, project participants were brought into conversation with each other using a moderated „mix and match“ at the „DERIX Timber Construction Day“ between top-class specialist presentations and a panel discussion on the airship hangar. This initiated and supported communication between investors and planners and executing timber construction companies.

As a special highlight, four DERIX projects were presented, which are remarkable for their circular conception. The public was asked to decide in an online voting which of these four nominated projects deserves to win the DERIX Timber Construction Award 2023 – and voted for the project „Floating Office Rotterdam“, presented by Dirk Jan Schaap, Real Estate Developer at RED Company.

„I am very happy that the project „Floating Office Rotterdam“ has won the first DERIX Timber Construction Award.“ It is an extraordinary building that has made a vision of sustainable architecture become reality: the FOR is climate resilient, energy positive, CO2 negative and will float when the water level rises due to climate change. It was great to realize such a special project with the DERIX Group, which, as a reliable, competent partner has implemented the timber construction excellently“, Dirk Jan Schaap said happily about the appreciation of the FOR.

The DERIX timber construction day 2023 left an outstanding impression on the guests and all participants. Markus Derix, managing owner of the DERIX Group, summarizes the day as follows: „This was really an extraordinary event where everything was just perfectly on point: The airship hangar as a location was great, here all guests could directly experience what is possible with timber. Above all, it was important for us to network the guests with each other, because that is exactly what is immensely important when planning a circular project: Everyone involved has to be at the table at an early stage. I think we succeeded in doing that well. This was definitely not our last DERIX Timber Construction Day!“
