DERIX Carbon Credits:
Half-and-half for the future

It has been known since May: The DERIX Group is the first timber construction company to enter the emissions trading scheme and has CO2 certificates issued for the considerable quantities of CO2 stored in its timber components. This means that DERIX is now in a position to realise its contribution to climate protection in monetary terms.

The outstanding building ‘Luftschiffhangar Mülheim’ was the pilot project for which the stored CO2 was certified. The DERIX Group is taking this first important step into the future together with the owner of the airship hangar, Westdeutsche Luftwerbung Theodor Wüllenkemper GmbH & Co. KG (WDL) in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The total of 1,169 carbon credits are shared between the companies: WDL as the owner receives 556 carbon credits, while 555 carbon credits remain with the DERIX Group as the executing company. Five per cent of the total carbon credits will be retained by the certifier Oncra as default protection. The carbon credits are transferred via an online portal. Markus Steppler, Managing Director, and Antonia Görg, Sustainability Manager at the DERIX Group, presented the 556 carbon credits in the form of an engraved piece of X-LAM to those responsible at WDL at the handover ceremony on 17 July 2025.

The DERIX Group will use its carbon credits to renew its certification as a climate-neutral company.
