‘DERIX Circular Construction Stories’

In the third film in our series DERIX Circular Construction Stories, we focus on a key theme of our sustainability strategy: carbon neutrality. In this new film, we show how, as a group of companies, we have charted our course towards climate-neutral production and working practices – and why this process means far more to us than just a single goal.

At DERIX, we view sustainability as a process of continuous development. That is why, as early as the end of 2022, we commissioned a comprehensive carbon footprint assessment for the entire DERIX Group. This has helped us to ensure transparency regarding our emissions and to identify specific areas for further improvement.

The results have confirmed that, even at that stage, our emissions figures were exceptionally low for a manufacturing company. At the same time, they have motivated us to continue steadfastly along the path we have chosen and to implement further measures – for example, by optimising our transport packaging and other processes within the value chain.

In 2023, we took the next important step: we offset our remaining emissions and have been operating as a climate-neutral company ever since. To this end, we support, amongst other things, forest conservation projects that actively contribute to the preservation of important CO₂ sinks.

A key element of our approach is our own CO₂ certificates for timber components. This is because timber stores CO₂ over the long term, thereby making an important contribution to climate protection. We now also use these certificates to offset our remaining emissions and actively incorporate them into our sustainability strategy.

The film makes it clear that carbon neutrality is not an end in itself for us, but rather another milestone on our journey towards a more circular economy and sustainable construction. We are constantly working to further optimise our processes and tap into additional opportunities for reducing emissions.

With the series DERIX Circular Construction Stories, we provide a practical introduction to the topics of sustainability, the circular economy and climate-neutral construction – and demonstrate how sustainable transformation can be implemented in practice within the industrial timber construction sector.
