Wood impregnation

As a natural material, wood has a limited lifespan and is susceptible to pests and moisture. To extend the life of the wood and prevent possible infestation by pests, preventive wood protection measures such as wood impregnation are used.

What is chemical wood protection?

Chemical wood protection is a preventive measure that aims to stop the natural degradation of wood. In contrast to combating chemical wood protection, which aims to destroy harmful organisms that are already present, the aim of preventive wood protection is to prevent possible infestation of the wood.

Which agents are used for wood impregnation?

Wood impregnation usually involves the use of agents containing solvents, but also oils or water-soluble salts. Impregnations never form films, they protect the substrates from penetrating moisture, pests and their consequences. For example, solvent-rich, colourless alkyd resin products with fungicidal additives are used against blue stain fungus infestation.

Advantages of wood impregnation

Wood impregnation protects the wood from moisture and pests, which prolongs the life of the wood. The appearance of the wood is also preserved, as the impregnation does not form films and is therefore not visible.
