Wooden car park
in Rüsselsheim

Germany’s first wooden multi-storey car park is in Rüsselsheim. Its facade is made almost entirely of wood, the cars park on wood, the supporting structure is made of wood. The high-quality and natural building material makes this purely utilitarian building an ecological and sustainable building. In addition, the multi-storey car park is a real eye-catcher: innovatively designed and executed to a high standard, it enhances the dreary surroundings – a nice effect that one has not necessarily expected from multi-storey car parks so far! Hybrid construction
with a large proportion of wood

The two-storey wooden car park in Rüsselsheim comprises 93 parking spaces. In this hybrid construction, 45-ton steel columns, 180 m3 glulam for the beams and 300 m3 X-LAM for the ceilings and roof slabs are installed. The facade is also clad with 820 m2 of solid larch wood. The wood is mostly visible. The roof slab of the building was made of X-LAM and designed as a green roof and the intermediate ceiling was made of X-LAM with on-site mastic asphalt.

The advantages of wood
in the Rüsselsheim multi-storey car park

The natural building material wood gives the car park in Rüsselsheim a high aesthetic value, which also enhances the building’s surroundings. The flexibility of wood could be optimally used here for the realisation of an innovative design that impressively demonstrates the great atmospheric influence functional buildings have on their surroundings. In practical terms, wood also scores points here with its insensitivity to de-icing salts, which makes it particularly durable for this application.

The wooden multi-storey car park in Rüsselsheim is trend-setting because, on the one hand, the high-quality and aesthetic wooden construction takes responsibility for the immediate surroundings of the functional building. On the other hand, the use of wood shows the consideration of the aspects of sustainability and climate protection, which should not be missing in any modern building.
