The Floating Office Rotterdam (FOR) is a unique office building in the port city of Rotterdam – floating, energy self-sufficient and built entirely of wood. As the headquarters of the Global Centre on Adaptation, the FOR sends a strong signal for climate-friendly construction and urban resilience.

A space for encounters and change
The Floating Office Rotterdam was designed as a forward-looking place to work and meet – floating, energy self-sufficient and built entirely from the natural building material wood. As the headquarters of the Global Centre on Adaptation, the building stands for sustainable construction and global cooperation in the face of climate change.
With open-plan offices, meeting rooms and a public restaurant, the FOR creates space for productive work and interdisciplinary exchange. The architecture promotes interaction and communication – in keeping with a modern, collaborative working life.
From the perspective of sustainability and climate friendliness, wood was also the logical choice for creating a flexible, resource-efficient building.

The Floating Office Rotterdam won first place in the DERIX Timber Construction Award 2023. Its outstanding achievement in timber construction was particularly highlighted.
Dezeen Awards 2022
The Floating Office Rotterdam has been nominated in the ‘Sustainable Buildings’ category at the Dezeen Awards 2022. Particular mention was made of the floating construction and the use of climate-friendly materials.
FRAME Awards 2022
In 2022, the building was named ‘Large Office of the Year’ at the Frame Awards.
MIPIM/Architecture Festival Awards
The Floating Office Rotterdam received an award at the MIPIM Awards and is one of the internationally recognised projects in the field of sustainable architecture.

The building was honoured for its sustainable construction at the World Architecture Festival Awards.

The building was awarded the ‘Kantoorgebouw van het Jaar’ (Office Building of the Year) prize as part of the Architectenweb Awards 2022.
Completely dismantlableand reusable
The FOR was designed according to the highest sustainability standards and can be completely dismantled and reused. It uses solar energy, has passive cooling and floats on the Rijnhaven – a symbol of adaptability and innovation. With office space, conference rooms and a restaurant, it offers space for international cooperation and local encounters.
