Bio-based Innovation for Sustainable Construction
A new film in the series
“DERIX Circular Construction Stories”
In the fifth film of our series DERIX Circular Construction Stories, we focus on a key component of sustainable wood construction products: the use of bio-based adhesives. The film makes it clear that sustainable innovation often begins where you wouldn’t immediately expect it. Although the adhesive accounts for less than one percent of a finished solid wood component, we have deliberately focused on this area as well. The introduction of bio-based adhesives is therefore another step on our path toward greater sustainability and circularity.
As early as the beginning of 2024, the DERIX Group became the first company in the timber engineering sector to introduce bio-based adhesives into series production. Today, our timber components are already almost entirely bonded using the products Henkel Loctite HB S Eco and Akzo Grip Pro Plus Nature. In this process, significant portions of the fossil-based raw materials are replaced with renewable or partially recycled raw materials, which significantly reduces the adhesives’ carbon footprint.
Especially important: The transition is taking place without compromising on quality, reliability, or workmanship. The technical properties of the proven adhesive systems are preserved, while their sustainability profile is improved.
Through the film series DERIX Circular Construction Stories, we offer insights into our philosophy, our innovations, and our path toward a circular construction industry. The fifth film shows how even seemingly small changes can make an important contribution to a more sustainable future.
