Successful building in a construction team:
School in record time

The new comprehensive school in Cologne Ossendorf will be the first new municipal school in Cologne to be built in timber hybrid construction. As one of the largest timber-hybrid schools in Europe, it will create 1,265 additional school places. The school was planned as an accelerated construction project – a pilot project in North Rhine-Westphalia. The new school building is urgently needed – which is why rapid completion was one of the key objectives from the outset. Construction began in October 2023 and the building is due to be handed over at the start of the school year in 2026.

The load-bearing structure is made of solid timber. The extremely high degree of prefabrication with which the timber components are delivered to the construction site reduces the construction time enormously. But that is only half the story. A decisive success factor for shortening the construction time is building in a construction team. Instead of rigidly delimiting the process steps, it promotes flexibility and communication during the course of the project.

Working successfully in a construction team offers great potential for future projects. Circular construction projects in particular require early networking and continuous dialogue between all project participants, as the dismantling of the building must be considered from the outset. The construction team is the success factor for an efficient construction process that also offers room for optimisation and innovation.
